It seems to me that many consulting firms don’t fully understand the difference between delegated and collaborative services, and manage their engagements as if they were delegated services, like installing a toilet bowl or unblocking the kitchen sink.
The difference is that while plumbing is a “do it FOR me” service, consulting is a “do it WITH me” or “help me to do it for myself” type service. Plumbing is a delegated transactional service, but consulting is a collaborative transformational one.
